Project: Upgrading
Omron C200H PLC’s to Omron CS1 PLC’s |
| Overview:
Omron
Electronics has announced the discontinuation of the C200H CPU01, CPU02,
and CPU03 PLC processors. As the C200H processors age and eventually fail,
or as the demand for real-time information from the plant floor increases,
the need for an effective replacement is evident. Two years ago Omron
Electronics introduced the CS1 family of PLC’s. These products allow
users to upgrade their existing systems with a minimum of effort and are
competitively priced.
|
Upgrade Objectives
-
Provide a low cost
hardware platform
-
Reduce downtime
during the upgrade process
-
Keep engineering
costs low
-
Add networking
capabilities
|
Design
Challenges
-
Utilize existing
components wherever possible
-
Use existing control
cabinet space
-
Convert software from
C200H to CS1 platform
|
System
Solutions
-
The Omron CS1
family of processors is the replacement of choice for Omron C200H
PLC’s
-
A new dual bus
backplane design allows the CS1 processors to take advantage of
existing I/O modules while providing optimal support for new I/O
designs
-
Unlike C200H
processors, CS1 CPU’s do not have an integrated power supply. A
power supply is added to the CS1 backplane
-
CX Programmer
programming software is utilized for program conversions
|
Customer
Benefits
-
An
“Off-The-Shelf” upgrade solution
-
Keeping the
existing I/O platform saves money and time – no need to re-wire the
I/O connections
-
The existing C200H
program is easily converted to the CS1 platform using CX Programmer
-
Future networking
needs can now be met without further upgrades
