Our
client, a manufacturer of custom tufting machines in Georgia, had need for
safeguarding of a very critical hazardous area on their machine. |
Application
Objectives
- Provide
a safety device that would protect operators from personal injury.
- Provide
a solution that would not hinder the operators normal operations.
- Provide
a solution that meets all applicable OSHA and ANSI standards.

Challenges

System
Solutions
- Solved the application using the STI
Flex-Safe safety light curtain. The Flex-Safe unit is a segmented
curtain that allows up to 3 segments. In this application, we used two
4” segments and a NEMA control box that could be mounted to the side
of the machine.
- Used the safety distance calculation to
make sure that we were the proper distance away from the point of
operation, which will allow the machine to stop without allowing
anyone to get hurt.
- Referenced all applicable OSHA and ANSI
standards for this type of machine and industry

operators and others in the work area getting injured

OSHA and ANSI standards, including the safety distance formula
