Application:
Level Control
Description:
A soap
manufacturer is using capacitive sensors to detect high level
control in a bottle filling station. The original sensors were
getting contaminated by spills and drippings from the caustic
soap. Washdown also contributed to the failure of the sensors on
a weekly basis.
Objective:
To improve on down
time, reduce failure rate, and improve on accuracy of level
detection. Also, to eliminate the need of contact to the
containers and to handle the caustic washdowns. When the media
is put into the container and filled to level of the thru-beam,
it would then break the beam. This would give a very reliable
and repeatable signal to the stop control. Whereas the
capacitive sensors could be false triggered by spills or poor
contact.

The Solution :Because
of the opaque plastic gallon jugs, the thru-beam optos were
chosen because of their strong IR beam. The IR beam can
penetrate through an empty container. The stainless steel
thru-beam sensors and connectors were chosen because of the
caustic washdown. To make the sensor array compatible to the AC
controller, the 705-U1.1 Power supply and relays are used.
Apertures are used on the sender side to cut down signal
strength.
