WAUKEGAN, Illinois -- Yaskawa Electric America, Inc. has introduced the MP940, a one and one half axis motion controller. This controller is an extension of the MotionSuiteTM series of controllers targeted to semiconductor, packaging, converting, machine tool and food processing industries. The modular packaging of the 1.5 axis MP940 motion controller features the ability to be installed on any Sigma II servo amplifier that Yaskawa offers. The MP940 and Sigma II combination forms an extremely powerful, compact, high performance motion control system. The compact MP940, high-performance controller, employs MotionWorksTM, a Windows®95/98/NT compatible programming tool, in which programs are transportable between MotionSuiteTM controls. Interface to operator HMI is simplified by two serial communication ports: 1- RS232C and 1- RS422/485 utilizing "MEMOBUS", a convenient, unified, management protocol for programs and parameters. A high-speed communications port utilizing Yaskawa's CERFTM network is a standard feature of the MP940. This network provides a high degree of reliability by using Yaskawa's "MECHATROLINK" protocol. With a communication rate of 10 Mbps between MP940 controllers and 4 Mbps to I/O modules, CERFTM is one of the fastest motion control networks available. The MP940 controller is also capable of being a network master for up to 14 other MP940 controllers and/or I/O modules. The MP940 controller also accepts external encoder and registration inputs. This can be used in electronic gearing, programmable limit switch, and electronic camming applications.
